On January 17 Michael Morgan leads the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Alvin Singleton's After Fallen Crumbs on their program Reflect and Rejoice: A Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. A key orchestral work in the Singleton catalogue, After Fallen Crumbs features stark timpani and brass fanfares contrasted with reserved, minimalist orchestral writing. The piece is dedicated to Martin Luther King, Jr. and has been recorded on Elektra/Nonesuch by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robert Spano. Singleton is thrilled to continue his association with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in the 2011/12 season. Plans will be announced by the orchestra.
Alvin Singleton celebrates his 70th birthday in 2010, and we invite you to join the festivities by programming works from his celebrated catalogue of orchestral, chamber, choral and solo works. Singleton's oeuvre includes a wide variety of orchestral works from the bright fanfares of After Fallen Crumbs, to the driving energy of Shadows to the sparse, gestural text setting of Say You Have This Ball of Meaning. In March, 2009 Robert Spano led the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in several performances of Singleton's PraiseMaker, which was recorded for release on Telarc.
