World Premieres of Two New Works by Toshio Hosokawa

Two new works by Toshio Hosokawa were given their premiere performances in October. First, on October 2, Heinz Holliger, along with English hornist Marie-Lise Schüpbach, gave the world premiere of Hosokawa’s Knoten (Musubi) - Für Heinz Holliger zu seinem 80. Geburtstag for oboe and English horn. The work was performed as part of a concert featuring the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Heinz Holliger, in celebration of Holliger’s eightieth birthday. Other works on the program included Bohuslav Martinů’s Oboe Concerto, H. 353, Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole, and Heinz Holliger’s Zwei Liszt-Transkriptionen.

On October 9, Dominik Wollenweber gave the world premiere of Toshio Hosokawa’s Still ist mein Herz und harret seiner Stunde at the Philharmonie in Berlin. The concert, presented by Die Junge Kammerphilharmonie Berlin, also included Mahler’s Lied von der Erde.
