Revival of Beat Furrer's Violetter Schnee at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, led by Matthias Pintscher and Claus Guth

Apr. 12, 2024

Beat Furrer's Violetter Schnee was commissioned by the Staatsoper Unter den Linden which presented the world premiere performances of the work in 2019 under the baton of Matthias Pintscher with stage direction by Claus Guth. Pintscher and Guth lead a revival of this work with four performances at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden from April 20-May 10

In the opera, the world is in a state of emergency and five people are trapped in perpetual snowdrifts. Time appears to stand still as each character addresses their situation in drastically different ways, from abject despair to hopeful optimism. Over time, the characters find it incresingly difficult to communicate and they begin to see, hear, and project sensory information in a way that transcends the reality they find themselves in. Yet it is ultimately in vain. "Nothing, however, is stronger than the sun. The group is obliterated in the violet illumination of the snow."
