Performances Worldwide of Joaquín Rodrigo's Orchestral Works

This month, in addition to numerous performances of Joaquín Rodrigo’s beloved Concerto de Aranjuez -- including the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, led by James Cassidy, featuring Jason Vieux, on November 9, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, led by Alondra del la Parra and featuring guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas on November 23, and the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Dane Lam, with guitarist Xuefei Yang, on November 23 -- orchestras around the world present some of the late master’s greatest orchestral compositions. On November 9, the Flint Symphony Orchestra, led by Enrique Diemecke, perform Rodrigo’s Fantasia para un gentilhombre, featuring guitarist Sharon Isbin. On the same day, the ADDA Simfònica, led by Erkki Lasonpalo, performs Rodrigo’s Concierto Andaluz featuring guitarists Ana Iordache, Kyuhee Park, Niklas Johansen and Daniel Guerola. Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez is also on the program, featuring Pepe Romero as soloist.

The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, under the baton of Roberto Ferrer Llueca, perform Rodrigo’s Concierto pastoral for flute and orchestra, featuring flautist Sarah Ureña Cabrera, on November 15. The Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, led by Juan Felipe Molano, with Julin Cheung as soloist, performs the same work on November 17 at the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium at Benaroya Hall.

The Städtisches Orchester Schwaz, led by Michael Plattner, perform Joaquín Rodrigo’s Soleriana on November 30 at SZentrum Schwaz in Austria.

Finally, on December 8, Roberto Ferrer Llueca leads the Orquesta Czech Virtuosi in performances of Rodrigo’s Zarabanda lejana y VillancicoDos miniaturas andaluzas, and Fantasía para un gentilhombre.
