Biography

Cited as “subtle and inventive” by the New York Times, Erin Gee’s compositions have been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Radcliffe Fellowship, the 2008 Rome Prize, the Teatro Minimo Prize, the Rostrum of Composers Award, the Gianni Bergamo Prize, and the Look and Listen Prize, among others, and she has had premieres of her work at the Zurich Opera House with her opera SLEEP, with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Recherche, the Latvian Radio Chamber Choir, Ensemble Ascolta, the Amercian Composers Orchestra with a commission from the and the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group under Esa-Pekka Salonen. She has also worked with Ensemble Surplus, Alter Ego, Either/Or Ensemble, Wet Ink, Metropolis Ensemble, Repertorio Zero, Talea Ensemble, Empyrean Ensemble and the Vokalensemble Zürich.

Gee was a featured composer at the 4020 Festival in Linz, Austria, and her music has been performed at the Wittener Tage für Neue Musik, Musik Protokoll in Steirischer Herbst, the Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik, Klangspuren, Darmstadt Festival Summer Courses, the Sonic Festival, Nuova Musica, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and at the Zürich Tage der Neue Musik.

Erin Gee was in residence at the Montalvo Arts Center and the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart in 2010. Ms. Gee became an Assistant Professor of Composition at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2012. Her first CD Mouthpieces will be released on the col legno label in spring 2013.
