World Premiere of Elżbieta Sikora’s Symphonic Overture and Multiple PWM Works Take Center Stage in Krakow

Mar. 06, 2024

On March 1, the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra (Filharmonia Zielona Góra) gave the premiere performance of Elżbieta Sikora’sSymphonic Overture during their inaugural Women's History Month concert. The orchestra was conducted by Anna Sulkowska-Migoń, the 2022 first prize winner of the “La Maestra” conducting competition in Paris.

Additionally, Elżbieta Sikora's Orpheus' Head for flute will be performed by the contemporary music ensemble, Społdzielnia Muzyczna on March 8 on a concert titled, "Regulated Modernity" at the National Museum in Krakow. The concert also includes works for tape by Włodzimierz Kotoński and Andrzej Dobrowolski, Górecki's Sonata op. 10 for two violins, and Modus for solo cello by the father of Polish minimalism, Tomasz Sikorski.

Społdzielnia Muzyczna has prepared this concert in collaboration with PWM using materials that were published by PWM Edition after the Second World War, a time marked by the influence of the "Warsaw Autumn" Festival of Contemporary Music and the activities of the Polish Radio Experimental Studio. The graphic scores were accompanied by vinyl discs containing parts of the tape. For this concert, PWM prepared digital versions of the tape parts.
